Pastor Rex serves both the congregation of St. Luke as our pastor and the Port of Philadelphia/South Jersey as a Chaplain. Funding for this ministry is co-opted by Seafarers & International House of NYC and Seamen's Church Institute of Philadelphia. Opportunity for congregational and personal participation offers a unique chance to experience the lifestyle of persons who provide up to 90% of goods we use daily. Through this opportunity we as a congregation experience many cultures and participate in a ministry of great worth.
Work during the disasters of flooding in 2004-2006 and Katrina in the Gulf called many in the congregation to respond to the needs of persons who lost everything. As a result through pastor we became involved with Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR), the Nockamixon EMA, we formed the VOAD here in upper Bucks and we are members of The American Red Cross (we are a shelter, a member of the Doylestown DAT and a training center). We stand ready to support persons in need no matter what the circumstances.
Cooperation with the Palisades Cluster of Lutheran Churches has provided many services to the community. At present we are pursuing the development and expansion of Parish Nursing for the community of Upper Bucks from Pipersville to Pleasant Valley.
We support through donations, volunteers and supplies the Lord's Pantry a food pantry opperated by the Parish of St. John the Baptist. This ministry reaches out to help people who are in need during hard times with food and clinic services.
